description: <DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV><P><SPAN>Sanitary landfill (area) is a method of disposing solid waste by placing refuse in successive layers on the surface of the soil, or in pit once excavation has been undertaken. The waste is then spread, compacted, and covered daily with a thin layer of soil that is imported from a source away from the site (or from spoil from the original excavation set aside for such purposes). A final cover of soil at least 60cm thick is placed over the completed landfill. The map shows the distribution of areas suitable for landfill (area). As the suitability for landfill (area) is less sensitive to the cohesion of the soil (deep trenches are not required) excavation and movement of overburden materials is much easier. Thus the limitation imposed by texture is less severe than that imposed on landfill (trench). Large areas of the Emirate which have lower relief and comprise deep sand sheets are moderately suitable for sanitary landfill (area).</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>

Prior to decisions about land use more detailed site inspection is likely to be required to developed detailed understanding of soil and site characteristics related to the planned use.</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>
