Description: Landfill disposal uses layering, compacting, and daily soil covering in a trench, capped with a 60cm soil layer when full. This research investigates soil properties up to 200cm deep. Trenches can exceed 500cm, necessitating geotechnical studies to evaluate groundwater pollution risks and design needs. These studies, typically performed by the landfill developer, examine stratification, rock formations, and geological conditions that could allow leachate to infiltrate water sources. Hard, cracked bedrock or highly permeable layers under the proposed trench create excavation and pollution problems. Most Abu Dhabi soils are unsuitable for landfill disposal due to sandiness, steep dunes, or proximity to hardpan or water tables.
